We are the only clinic in the Mid-South to use the first and only FDA approved temporary, non-surgical peripheral nerve stimulator.
Who Can Benefit from Peripheral Nerve Stimulation?
Peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) may be a promising option for people living with chronic pain especially when other treatments haven’t helped. This is often used to relieve pain from:
- Nerve damage caused by injury or conditions like diabetic neuropathy
- Ongoing pain after surgeries such as amputations or hernia repairs
- Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) affecting limbs
- Migraines or chronic headaches that don’t respond to medication
- Pelvic pain from conditions like interstitial cystitis or an overactive bladder
Because PNS is minimally invasive and reversible, it is an excellent choice for those seeking pain relief without major surgery or long-term medication use.
The Procedure and What to Expect
PNS is done in two phases, allowing you to try it before making a long-term commitment.
- Trial Phase: A temporary lead (electrode) is placed near the affected nerve and connected to a small external device. This trial lets you experience how well the therapy manages your pain. If you find it helpful, you can move to the next step.
- Long-Term Implantation: If the trial is successful, a permanent generator (similar in size to a pacemaker) is implanted under the skin. This device sends gentle electrical pulses to disrupt pain signals. You’ll have control over the settings and can adjust them to fit your needs.
After the wire is removed, patients continue to feel less pain or no pain at all. Recovery is usually quick, with most returning to daily routines within a few days.
